- Use pictures and illustrations to introduce students to new words.
- You are not going to be able to teach all the words, so teach how words work.
- Expose students to a variety of texts and topics.
- Use word families! Allow students to make connections between words.
- Do not give out a list with words and definitions. Help students make meaning or words in context.
